Digikam gets stuck with "(Not responding)"

SUMMARY

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Run Digikam

OBSERVED RESULT

Digikam gets stuck with "Digikam (Not responding)" on the window title bar (see attachment)

I tried to run Digikam from the command line to have an idea of what's going on in the console but that's not possible on Windows. When I run `digikam` from the command line or powershell on windows, it just creates the process as if I had run `digikam &` on linux and there's no console output at all:

```
C:\Users\aland\Downloads\digiKam-8.1.0-Win64\digiKam>digikam
C:\Users\aland\Downloads\digiKam-8.1.0-Win64\digiKam>
```

(then it opens in parallel as another process and crashes as usual)

I tried all alternatives I could think of to avoid this problem:

- setting up digikam with an empty pictures directory and other pictures directories (to ensure it's not one of the files causing the problem),
- running it from the command line,
- installing different digikam versions like digikam 7.x versions,
- installing all different packages (from the archive, from the debug version, and from the installer),
- reinstalling digikam and restarting the computer in all different orders, and
- copying the files from the archive version on top of the installed version (I saw that being recommended on another bug).

While digikam is in this "not responding" state, it consumes about 10% of my CPU and almost 100% of my memory (which is a lot: 64GB), even crashing the whole OS sometimes and even when I give it an empty directory. This means it might be something related to some memory leakage but I can't say it's about anything with much confidence.

That setup window that creates the configuration files does work. It's only after the configuration files exist that digikam fails to open and always goes to that "not responding" state.

EXPECTED RESULT
Digikam opens.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows: 11

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

I had to move from Linux to Windows for work reasons and was very happy that there was a Digikam version for Windows because that's what I used on Linux for many years. I tried everything I could think of but couldn't get it to work.

I would really hate having to abandon digikam after so many years because the whole process I have for organizing my pictures depends on digikam's conventions for tags, etc...

I'm using Adobe Bridge to visualize the files for now but it doesn't replace digikam at all. Moving to any other software breaks the whole organization I have making metadata almost useless and hard to maintain with the same conventions from digikam.

Redoing it for dozens of thousands of pictures is almost impossible. I would really hate to have to abandon digikam.

I forgot to mention that also included "deleting the digikam configuration files from all locations (database location, %appdata% roaming, and local)"

Do you have AVIF files in your image collection? Otherwise please test the digiKam-8.2.0 pre-release version which is now compiled with the Microsoft compiler from here:

https://files.kde.org/digikam/

Not really. I tested Digikam with an empty directory to make sure it was not about the files and had the same error.

Oh... That's nice. Even the interface looks more stable.

And it worked! :)

I was desperate. Thanks a lot!
