Created attachment 163365 [details] Backtrace I saved before the crash uploader screen itself crashed SUMMARY The plasmashell elements such as taskbar, widgets, etc. will intermittently crash with a segmentation fault and reload very quickly when multitasking, usually with a video playing on another monitor. This same issue also causes the bug report screen that only occasionally comes up when this occurs to close. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Generally use the PC while multitasking with a few chat applications and a browser open, seems to happen more often when a video is streaming like YouTube or Twitch OBSERVED RESULT A lot of plasma elements seemingly crash and quickly reload, the taskbar, widgets, general plasma shell elements. Crash report screens close when this occurs. EXPECTED RESULT The plasma elements would not reload and would perform normally SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: Fedora 39 KDE Spin KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.9 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.111.0 Qt Version: 5.15.11 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION GPU: AMD RX 6700 XT CPU: Intel i5-11400f RAM: 64GB Four monitors, 3x 1920x1080 (1x 60hz, 1x 144hz, 1x 165hz), 1x 2560x1440 (144hz) Running Wayland Issue seemingly occurs more often when a video is playing, but still occurs without one playing, may be unrelated The issue did not occur on Plasma 5.27.X on the same system when using Debian 12, also running Wayland The system otherwise runs very stable aside from this issue
I do not know much about this stuff, but I see some lines in the .kcrash file about LibKF5IconThemes and similar, so I'll list my current themes and icons as well: Global Theme: Breeze Dark Application Style: Breeze Plasma Style: Moe-Dark (from https://store.kde.org/p/1717596) Colors: MoeDark (from https://store.kde.org/p/1717596) Window Decorations: Breeze Icons: Breeze Dark Cursor: Flandre Scarlet Cursor (animated, from https://store.kde.org/p/1878004)
After some further testing, it seems like I was mistaken while making the initial bug report. The crashing is caused by the animated cursor when used with an AMD GPU. I have the same cursor on a Fedora 39 Kinoite install on my secondary laptop, which has a 60hz monitor and an intel UHD 620 integrated GPU where the issue does not occur. Returning back to the default breeze cursor on my desktop completely gets rid of this crash, while enabling the cursor again causes the crash and reload to occur again reliably.
Apologies. Shortly after posting that, even with the default breeze cursor and theme, the crash occured again. Please ignore previous comment.
