STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Uncheck "preview thumbnails" in folder view -> icons configuration. 2. Restart OBSERVED RESULT After logging in, custom icons for folders in the desktop are not shown. Instead, I get the generic folder icon. I need to right-click on the folder, dismiss the contextual menu and left-click elsewhere on the desktop so they are recalled. EXPECTED RESULT The custom icons (set with "properties" or using a .directory file) should have been shown without any user intervention. Can you reproduce this issue when opening ~/Desktop in Dolphin as well? Or only on the Plasma desktop?

I can't reproduce it in Plasma 6 and suspect that this has been fixed already by some of the other changes that made desktop file refreshing more reliable. Let's call it fixed, since unfortunately that change isn't easily backportable to Plasma 5--and let's face it: even if it was, Debian Stable would never take it as a patch or update to the new version anyway.
Thank you anyway. It seems 6 is expected for the first months of the new year, I'll see if it's worth it moving to Debian testing. Plasma's working fine for me and looking great.
