Created attachment 163262 [details] old-style login (top-left corner has session dropdown with no options) SUMMARY *** I used Kubuntu 23.10 for a 2 weeks on an AMD laptop (RADEon 6800m). Everything was fine, until today I loaded a laptop, and seen a weird login screen, can't submit password there, also noticed a dropdown in left-top corner for "session" - no options available. Tried "Ctrl-alt-f3" for a console mode login - were able to login, but didn't know how to fix it, so ended up just reinstalling Kubuntu. Not sure if it caused by me, or updates  Note: logs during system startup looks fine, but maybe I missed smth *** STEPS TO REPRODUCE Have no idea, it just happened one day  OBSERVED RESULT - old-style login window shows up - and on submitting password nothing happens - No session available in dropdown () EXPECTED RESULT Default login screen shows up SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: Kubuntu 23.10 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

You're looking at the SDDM login screen, not the splash screen. When you see this old-style SDDM screen, it means that SDDM had to fall back to its built-in theme. The fact that you also see no sessions suggests that something is very wrong with your system. Likely a bunch of files got deleted. This would be bad… but not a bug in our code.
