Created attachment 163247 [details] Brush preset samples comparison, Krita 5.2.1 vs 5.2.0 SUMMARY In Krita 5.2.1, some brush presets do not behave as they used to do until 5.2.0. See attachment for comparison. 1. h) Chalk Basic Block / Chalk Details (sorry in that case I did not use exactly the same preset but they look very similar) 2. h) Charcoal 01 Draw Detail from Ramon Miranda's Charcoal_KA bundle 3. h) Chalk Soft 4. c) Pencil-6 Quick Shade 5. PW5-03-chinese-soft from Pesi's Watercolour for K5 v2-3 bundle 6. h) Charcoal 06 Vine-Small from Ramon Miranda's Charcoal_KA bundle 7. h) Charcoal Pencil Medium 8. h) Charcoal pencil large 1, 3 and 4 look rather OK (at least at first glance). 2 I'm not sure. 5-8 are completely wrong. Especially, the "Charcoal Pencil Medium" (7) is my go-to pencil, so for me this is actually a critical problem... STEPS TO REPRODUCE Select brush preset. Draw something. OBSERVED RESULT See attachment (bottom part, 5.2.1). EXPECTED RESULT See attachment (top part, 5.2.0). SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS I observed this both on Windows 10 on a Wacom MobileStudio Pro and on Ubuntu 23.04 on a Dell laptop, with Wacom Intuos 3 tablet. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION After observing the problem, I reverted to Krita 5.2.0 on the Windows machine, and the brush presets behave as expected (actually I did the samples in the attachment at that point).
All of the charcoal brushes listed (2,6,7,8) use a masked brushtip, and are affected by bug 476505 (which has been fixed in the nightly builds). Many watercolor brushes use masked brushtips, so that's likely also the case with number 5. That leaves 1, 3, and 4, which you've noted 'look OK at first glance'. I'm not seeing any issues with them either. If they are fine, then this would be a duplicate bug of 476505.
Thanks a lot, Freya, I guess it must be it. I searched existing bugs but as I'm not familiar with how brushes work "under the hood" I was not able to identify what the problem may be. So I will keep 5.2.0 and wait for the next release. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 476505 ***
