Git master version.

Yeah, I've noticed this too. Especially at high volume it's rather harsh and grating IMO.
Comment 2 fanzhuyifan 2023-12-14 18:26:44 UTC
The old one is https://invent.kde.org/plasma/ocean-sound-theme/-/blob/ba1f63089a6665562b010781376abb0a6a9b8fa3/ocean/stereo/audio-volume-change.oga
The new one is https://invent.kde.org/plasma/ocean-sound-theme/-/blob/master/ocean/stereo/audio-volume-change.oga?ref_type=heads

So with my headphones on, they appear to have the same volume. But with external speakers on the laptop, the new one is far louder than the old one. Are others also experiencing the same thing? I think this might be due to insufficient bass on the speakers?
Comment 3 Nate Graham 2023-12-15 15:52:26 UTC
Yes, I can reproduce that. However the new one also feels a bit more harsh in general, besides just the volume.

Yeah I agree. Should the maintainer @raploz be pinged somehow?

By the way I think you were quite happy with the new sound 3 months ago: https://invent.kde.org/plasma/plasma-workspace/-/issues/40. Did anything change in the mean time?
Comment 6 Nate Graham 2023-12-20 18:01:25 UTC
What changed is that I listened to it for 3 months! :D

FWIW the maintainer is in the CC list, so he's already gotten emails about this.

When the MR for https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=473013 is merged the workaround is just to decrease the volume of system notifications.

This workaround no longer works in Plasma 6.4
Comment 9 darxoon 2025-06-24 21:57:14 UTC
For reference, before Plasma 6.4, i had to set my notification sounds to around 40% to get this sound to a level reasonable compared to other applications. Now that this no longer works and the sound is always played at 100% of the system volume, it's so loud that it already starts distorting on my laptop speakers at around 50% system volume
Comment 10 Oliver Rasche 2025-06-25 16:24:44 UTC
Can confirm. Adjusting notification volume has no effect on the volume notification anymore since 4.6.

Git commit a9932ff8671eaada910d4e47ab0d0f0dd704c045 by Guilherme Marçal Silva, on behalf of Harald Sitter.
Committed on 14/08/2025 at 01:52.
Pushed by raploz into branch 'master'.

audio-volume-change: bring the sound volume way down

approx linear -20db to be precise. that is where the freedesktop sound
peaks out as well. with all headphones I have that produces a reasonably
loud sound at 100% volume but not so loud as to be painful (as was the
case before)

file has been adjusted in audacity, exported to wav, then converted to
oga as per readme
