Monochrome symbolic icons have always been blurry with a fractional scale and a low DPI screen; there's no way for them to *not* be blurry, in fact. Are you saying it's gotten noticeably worse, though?

Are other icons in Kirigami-based apps also similarly blurry? For example, monochrome symbolic icons in System Monitor and Discover?
Comment 2 Patrick Silva 2023-11-15 20:16:06 UTC
Colored system tray icons looks slightly blurry until its apps are restarted too.
Monochrome symbolic icons are crisp in System Monitor and Discover.

Interesting, so you really only see this in the System Tray? Do you see the issue with any other similar-y sized monochrome icons on your panel, perhaps for other widgets? To me the other widget icons look a bit blurry too.

Can you also attach a screenshot showing monochrome icons that look better somewhere else?

icons on 5.27

I tried changing the scale to 125% on Plasma 5.27.9 on a 1080p screen and the tray icons look pretty sharp to me, sharper than Patrick's screenshot at least. The panel size is 44px. The attached picture is small so it's possible the difference might not be apparent, but compared to his screenshot they do look sharper on an actual screen (after restarting Plasmashell, at least).

Both of your screenshots show icons at the exact same level of blurriness, which is what I would expect. The only difference I can see is that Patrick's screenshot shows 16px icons (the default size), while yours shows 22px icons (non-default; you must be using the "Scale with panel thickness" setting). Because the 22px icons have more detail, they may look less blurry, but it's an optical illusion. I think we're falling victim to the placebo effect here. :)
