Description BnanabFops 2023-11-14 10:16:09 UTC
If Dolphin has been opened once since the computer started, it will hoard all MTP devices connected, even if Dolphin is closed. Other programs that utilize MTP such as Strawberry Media Player, Partition Manager, gMTP, all of 7 other Media Players I tried - none of them can utilize MTP devices once Dolphin has been launched. The device will show up of them if selected, but trying to connect to them will fail. Attempting to connect before Dolphin has ever been started works, uninstalling Dolphin makes it so other programs using MTP can connect and function as expected. Killing Dolphin via terminal or System Monitor does not resolve the issue.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Start Computer
2. Open Dolphin File Manager
3. Connect MTP device
4. Attempt to connect and use any other program to the MTP device, even after dismounting it in Dolphin. The other program recognizing the MTP device does not count - it is when the other program tries to read or access the device that it fails.

OBSERVED RESULT
Other programs cannot ever use MTP devices

EXPECTED RESULT
Closing thunar and making sure it is not running via System Monitor should allow other programs to access MTP devices. There should be an option to disallow Dolphin from ever auto-mounting MTP devices.
