ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

I use Picasa to add Tags/Keywords to my images. This has worked well and digikam has always recognised and displayed these under each item.
In the Settings Menu / Configure digikam /Views / Icons - I have checked the "Show digikam tags" box.
I have several Albums selected and all of them except my latest Album correctly show the Tags
My latest Album does not display the tags.
Additionally if I right click an item the option "Remove Tag" is greyed out which suggests that the database has not included the relevant tags.
I have a laptop with Windows 11 and digikam and the same situation exists. However, I used RevoUnstaller to completely uninstall digikam and deleted the database file. I then reinstalled digikam from scratch and recreated the database.
I had previously used Picasa to tag a few new files before reloading digikam.
When reloaded, digikam then found and displayed the few new tags I had loaded earlier. When I used Picasa to tag another block of photos, I could not get digikam to display the tags.
Is this a bug or do I need to adjust my settings in some way?

The question is, are the tags in the images? Maybe in a sidecar? As of digiKam-8.x.x, sidecars are only read by commercial programs if the corresponding option is activated in the digiKam metadata settings for sidecars.
It's best to upload a sample image that should contain tags.

Hi,

Thanks for your very quick reply.

I'm no expert by any means, but using windows explorer, it shows the info
is contained within the image file as below:

Please also look in the digiKam metadata viewer in the right sidebar to see whether you can find the tag entries. And where they are stored. There are many places in images where tags can be written.
Also re-read the metadata from the image to the database in which you miss tags, e.g. via the Menu-Item. Do the tags appear now?

Hi,

The keywords do appear in the metadate sidebar under the IPTC tab.

Yes the tags do appear after a reread as you suggest.

How can I get them to display automatically (ie. without doing a reread)?

Many thanks for your help.
Regards,
Graham

Go to Setup/metadata and turn on the last option on the bottom from the Behavior view:

Thank you so much.

I absolutely love this program and have been using it for a couple of
years. Originally it was quite flakey in Windows, but now it seems pretty
stable.

The Timeline function and Calendar are very useful and don't exist in any
of the other programs I use.

Thanks again,
Graham
