SUMMARY Certain games using gamescope (Risk of Rain 2, Renegade X, Zandronum and possibly others) crashes the plasma shell. Panels, background image and widgets are all gone, cannot be relaunched with gamescope running in the background. Heres my attempt on relaunching plasmashell with gamescope running in the background: https://pastebin.com/sWLq0hf4 STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Launch a game with gamescope 2. Plasma shell crashes, (Panels, widgets and background image are gone). 3. Cannot relaunch plasma shell until gamescope is closed. OBSERVED RESULT plasmashell crashes, panels, widgets and background image breaks. EXPECTED RESULT Run gamescope without plasmashell crashing SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: Nobara 38 (Wayland) KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.8 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.109.0 Qt Version: 5.15.10
If something crashed, we need a backtrace of it so we can figure out what's going on. Can you please attach a backtrace of the crash using the coredumpctl command-line program, as detailed in https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports#Retrieving_a_backtrace_using_coredumpctl? Thanks!
We can actually see what goes wrong
Is this also you: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/gamescope/issues/977 ? Can you confirm if it happens everytime and for all gamescope games or just a particular one? Your log references some 3rd party applets: com.github.zren.tiledmenu does it happen on a stock session?
(In reply to David Redondo from comment #2) > We can actually see what goes wrong Do you still need the log for the backtrace? I'm not sure if I did it right (or even used the right one), but I can upload it if you still need it.

I've tried it without the tiled menu and it still crashes. Not every game causes it to crash. AoE2:DE and Vermintide 2 are one of the few that do not crash plasma shell.

Hi, do you still encounter this bug? I tested playing Risk of Rain 2 with gamescope, using these settings: `gamescope -e -W 3440 -H 1440 -f --force-grab-cursor %command%` Plasmashell did not crash for me or become unresponsive during gameplay, so maybe the issue has been fixed. My system info: Operating System: Fedora Linux 40 KDE Plasma Version: 6.1.80 KDE Frameworks Version: 6.4.0 Qt Version: 6.7.1 Kernel Version: 6.8.11-300.fc40.x86_64 (64-bit) Graphics Platform: Wayland Processors: 12 × AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core Processor Memory: 15.5 GiB of RAM Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon RX 6600 I am setting this NEEDSINFO WAITINGFORINFO so that this bug report closes automatically in 30 days. If you do encounter the issue again, feel free to comment here any time, or create a new report. Thanks!
