Description Alex 2023-10-10 21:33:58 UTC
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Click the button to capture a rectangular region

OBSERVED RESULT
The new toolbar opens in the middle of the screen and often needs to be moved away before selecting the region.

EXPECTED RESULT

I have no idea what was wrong with the old UX and why it was changed, but the new UX is worse.

I do not see how the toolbar provides any feature, that is not provided in the main window after the screenshot is taken. But at most the toolbar should open at the top or bottom of the screen where it is less likely to be at the location where one wants to select the region.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: Debian GNU/Linux 12
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.8
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.107.0
Qt Version: 5.15.10

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I have multiple screens. Maybe this affects where the toolbar is positioned.

So drag it somewhere else. It will remember its position.

The toolbar was added even before you dragged a box to facilitate the use case of taking a full screen screenshot using the rectangular region mode and not selecting anything. Yes, people actually do that!

At least the position is absolutely unfortunate.
I have to drag it away EVERY TIME. I don't do anything special, so I bet a lot of people have the issue.

And it DOES NOT remember the position after spectacle is closed and launched again (using the print screen key).

Then you're using an old version from before we made Spectacle remember the toolbar's position. I would recommend upgrading.
Comment 4 Alex 2023-10-11 19:13:43 UTC
I'm using 23.04.2 as specified in the bug.
Comment 5 Nate Graham 2023-10-11 19:14:43 UTC
Right, that's an old version. The latest one is 23.08.
