Jean-Claude: I do this all the time, so don't know how to reproduce the issue you're seeing. There is no attachment, so I assume you mean "any jpg" as opposed to one particular jpg file.

I can guess at two possible explanations
1) Perhaps you started KStars, then added the jpg and then opened the dialog and didn't see the jpg in the table? In that scenario, you would not see it because KStars doesn't continually search for jpgs, but if you restarted KStars you should then see it. Alternatively, you could click the refresh button (to the right of the "Overlay Directory" button) which would cause it to re-search the directory.
2) Although the files are presented alphabetically in the table, new files (e.g. after the "refresh" button is clicked) are placed at the end of the table. Look there to see if your file is in the table.

Hello Hy and thanks for the reply,

I confirm my bug report . I’ll give more explanations + screenshots.
I followed the indications found in https://knro.blogspot.com/2023/10/kstars-v367-is-released.html <https://knro.blogspot.com/2023/10/kstars-v367-is-released.html>

1/ Before starting KStars I added a small .jpeg size 141 KB (1000x648 px) in a folder imageOverlays found in the kstars folder.
The path of this folder is /Users/JCJ/Library/Application Support/kstars/imageOverlays

2/ I started KStars. On macOS, you should go to the menu KStars > Preferences... to open a dialog named Configure (by the way this dialog should be also named Preferences).

3/ In the dlg Configure I selected Image Overlays

4/ As you can see : 0 image files located

I hope this helps !

Jean-Claude sent an email explaining the issue:
```
Good evening Hy,
I just found the cause of the “bug” : the name of the jpeg file contained a “.” : "M 31 mosaic2x2 Star red."  !!!
Sorry about that !
```
Closing.
