Description GO 2023-09-21 16:33:47 UTC
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Kdenlive and create a new project
2. Select "add clip" and open the preview panel (F11) in the clip finder
3. Select a video clip or a sound clip

OBSERVED RESULT
If a video clip is selected, the preview panel display one image of the clip but does not play it.
If a sound clip (mp3, Wav,...) is selected, the preview panel display some thing like a traffic sign such as "no parking" and plays no sound.
That's all.

EXPECTED RESULT
The preview panel plays the video clip as well as the sound clip.

   Hi,
With each new version of Kdenlive, I check to see if the bug I reported is fixed (although I am aware that it has remained in the "reported" state!). Currently, I use kdenlive 24.05.02 (always on a Manjaro platform) and I see that the bug is still present.
I found this feature very useful for doing the quick de-rushing during editing short footages.
It's true that I can still benefit from it if I concede to go back to Kdenlive 0.9.10. I have this instance in a virtual machine that implements the Debian Jessy platform. But how can we give up all the progress Kdenlive has made since that time?

I don't think this is a bug. If it was in Kdenlive version 0.9.1 (when was that released?) there must be a reason why it was taken out in later versions.

I am using Pop!_OS 22.04 LTS with the latest version of Kdenlive, and the preview panel displays images and the first frame of videos. It has done that in previous versions in the same fashion. It is a pre-view not a pre-play or pre-hear. For files with an unknown, unsupported or not displayable mime type, a symbol is displayed: a document icon with a no-entry (?) symbol.

If you want the preview feature to play videos and play audio files, please open a [Feature Request] here.

Thank you Bernd for your feedback.
OK to name this feature "preplay" rather than "preview".
I don't know the reason for its disappearance from Kdenlive after version 0.9.1. I also don't know the exact version from which it disappeared. But I regret it. So I'm going to do as you suggest : make a feature request.
