(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***)

Package: kmail
Version: 1.4.1 (using KDE 3.0.0 )
Severity: wishlist
Installed from:
Compiler: gcc version 2.96 20000731 (Red Hat Linux 7.3 2.96-110)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.18-3
OS/Compiler notes:

I really wish to see an improvement in Kmail in its management of attachments. Today a lot of messages come with attachments. I like to save the messages for future reference but I don't necessarily want to save the attachemts together with the messages. This makes the inbox folder or any folder where we store out e-mail grow larger and larger in size. Most of the time the attachments should be either deleted or saved elsewhere (e.g. CD-ROM or other data storage device) without interfering with Kmail.
Such feature is already present in software such as Pegasus Mail and Lotus Notes (for Windows only alas...).
To recap I'd really like to be able to remove an attachment from the mail message it is attached to.

Yes, we definitely need such a solution! My gf studies arts, and she receives hundreds of megabyts of photos, and it's just a waste to have this all twice. There is a workaround to move mail to Drafts, edit it (delee the attachment and move it back, but hey, do this with hundreds of messages every day :-) Also, the mail's date is modified, which makes this workaround pretty useless.

Another duplicate of a very popular wish.
