Description Marcus Sundman 2023-09-10 20:46:57 UTC
SUMMARY
If I pause a video and leave it in the background for a few hours, then when I bring the window back to front the video has stopped, showing a black screen at time 00:00:00.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Play half of a video.
2. Press pause.
3. Minimize the window.
4. Restore the window after a couple hours.

OBSERVED RESULT
The video position is lost, and the video play head is at 00:00:00.

EXPECTED RESULT
The position should be where it was left.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Kubuntu 23.04
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.7
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.109.0
Qt Version: 5.15.8

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The play head position is actually saved, and can be restored by choosing File->Load Last Played File (assuming you haven't played other videos in the meantime).

Is your pc going into sleep when this happens, is the played file on an HDD or SSD?

No. Just now it happened again; I paused playback, switched to another window for maybe 10-15 minutes, and when I switched back to the Haruna window it was at 00:00:00 instead of where I left it.

In this case it was on my local SSD, but I'm pretty sure the same thing happens with files played from my file server, too.

This funny thing is that VLC also does something very similar. After a random time it makes the video screen black and goes to a stopped state. The only difference is that when I press play in VLC it immediately jumps to where I left it, while on Haruna if I press play it starts from the beginning and I instead have to quit Haruna and then open the file again, and then it resumes from where I left it.

The fact that it does a similar thing with VLC makes me think it might be some kind of graphics system buffer timeout or somesuch.
