SUMMARY OpenSuse Tumbleweed just updated to Gear 23.08. NordVPN will connect fine but does not return CLI prompt. Running top in another tab shows Kdialog consuming ~47% CPU and Xorg.bin consuming 99% CPU. If you leave it without doing anything for many hours it will slowly consume all your RAM in addition to the high CPU. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. run top in one cli tab and note Xorg.bin consuming 2% or less CPU. 2. in second tab run 'nordvpn connect toronto'. 3. In 1st tab note Xorg.bin is now 99% CPU and 2nd item is a new Kdialog process at 47% CPU OBSERVED RESULT NordVPN does connect. You get the first line connecting and a second line stating you are connected but the third line that is supposed to return the prompt just has a spinning slash as it appears to be waiting on Kdialog for something. The same process happens on disconnect (nordvpn disconnect) where you have to kill the newly spawned Kdialog for Xorg.bin to return to normal and get the prompt back. EXPECTED RESULT The prompt should return immediately, Kdialog should exit, and high CPU (and eventually memory) should not be consumed. This was working until an OpenSuse Tumbleweed update this week. It seems like Kdialog is the culprit since KDE Gear 23.08 came down as one of the upgrades, kdialog a newly spawned process from using nordvpn, and the problem is resolved upon killing it. NordVPN was last updated over a month ago on 2023-08-02, I've used it 4-5 times a week, and the problem only presented this week.
