SUMMARY
Basically a setting to start minimized to system tray area and do same (go to system tray area) when closing the window (click the X).

Currently, when the application is open, the "media player" is shown in the "Status and Notifications" area, that provides similar functionality as the application window itself: Previous/Next track, Stop/Pause/... The app could provide that functionality itself and "reduce the crowd" in the task manager when many apps are open.

Usually (at least for me), not much interaction is needed with Haruna after it started and the "system tray" area could be a good fit for it, as a "daemon" that plays ones media in the background (thinking of coding sessions). When interaction needed, one clicks its icon and it opens...

To avoid closing/stopping the app, it would be nice to send it back to system tray when "X" is clicked.

I don't know whether such a feature is worth the effort required to implement it and whether it inlines with the app/authors audience/guidelines. Please feel free to close the report if it is not the case.

Found this: https://www.reddit.com/r/archlinux/comments/1ps8o4e/spotify_minimizetotray_not_working_on_kde_654/

Seems to be indeed a wayland protocol thing.

Sorry for the noise: my last comment was not meant for this bug (even if it might still be somehow relevant), but for issue 513733

Qbittorrent seems to have the same problem, until it will be fixed in Wayland and then in Qt:
