Description sarahvca52 2023-08-28 04:26:41 UTC
SUMMARY
I use a laptop, and sometimes after plugging and unplugging displays, all of my desktop icons get reset to sorted by name, left to right. I'll rearrange my desktop, and a few hours or a day later I'll notice that they've been reset again after plugging in or unplugging a monitor. It doesn't change any of my desktop settings themselves, but the icons are still rearranged.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Set desktop icons to unsorted and locked. (I also have them set to small-medium, but I'm not sure if that affects it or not.
2. Move icons around in any configuraton
3. Change display configurations or disconnect and reconnect some displays a few times.

OBSERVED RESULT
Icons will eventually be completely reset and will be sorted by name, left to right. They do not revert after reverting the display configuration. Checking the desktop settings, icons are still set as unsorted and locked

EXPECTED RESULT
Icons should remain as they were positioned by the user unless a screen resolution or scaling change forces them to move.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Arch Linux (6.4.12-zen1-1-zen)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.7
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.109.0
Qt Version: 5.15.10

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I asked on the KDE subreddit, and someone else said they had the same issue, this time on the Steam Deck, so it does not appear to be isolated to me.

Yes, the code for this is unreliable and buggy and probably just needs to be rewritten. :/
