While selecting the screenshot area on the screen, the contrast of colors is very much increased. When the screenshot is already taken, the colors are displayed normally, but the bug greatly interferes when trying to take a screenshot on a white background (in a browser, for example), because the border of the area is simply not visible.
Were you using an Intel integrated GPU? Do your system also have a dedicated NVidia GPU? I don't know if they're related, but this sounds like the reverse of https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=469022.
