SUMMARY I have 64GB RAM. After 4-5 days system uses around 60-70% of RAM. Killing plasmashell process and dropping cache frees 40-50% of RAM. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. run PC 2. Wait 4-5 days. 3. plasmashell allocates around 40% of RAM. Whole system uses around 70%. 4. kill plasmashell. 5. sync; echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches free ~40% RAM. OBSERVED RESULT Every 4 days need killing plasmashell process, sync; echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches, runing plasmashell again for resume normal working. EXPECTED RESULT Working without killing plasmashell and erasing memory. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: (available in About System) KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.4 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.103.0 Qt Version: 5.15.8 kernel: 5.14.21-150500.55.7-default (64-bit) ADDITIONAL INFORMATION It happens last 4 years.
Are you using any 3rd-party widgets?
(In reply to Nate Graham from comment #1) > Are you using any 3rd-party widgets? No. Only widgets "from the box"? 3 stickers, 3 system info.
Previously I try to avoid this behavior by creating new user. It helped, but not so much, in helped for +-5 months. Fresh user leaks memory around 8-9-10 days.
This happened from Leap 15.4. In 15.3 I didn't have this. I could use system 1-2-3 months without reboot and hadn't leaks.
I know - plasmashell run a lot of processes. How I can find out what exactly process leaks?
