SUMMARY Under Wayland with Intel graphics, whenever I try to enable fullscreen in a game the window just becomes invisible and unresponsive. Tried with Minecraft (OpenGL, native) and Celeste (DXVK/OpenGL, wine) with the same results. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open any game that runs under XWayland (via Steam is preferred) 2. Under the game's options, enable fullscreen. OBSERVED RESULT Game window will become invisible (sound and keyboard commands still work) EXPECTED RESULT Enabling fullscreen from a game should display the game as exclusive fullscreen as expected. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Operating System: Solus 4.4 KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.6 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.107.0 Qt Version: 5.15.9 Kernel Version: 6.3.12-241.current (64-bit) Graphics Platform: X11 Processors: 4 × Intel® Core™ i5-7200U CPU @ 2.50GHz Memory: 7.6 GiB of RAM Graphics Processor: Mesa Intel® HD Graphics 620 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION - Custom font DPI settings are used - Changing anything under Compositor settings has no effect - I have not tried / know of other types of applications that would have the same issue
So I recently discovered what was causing this issue: When changing my screen resolution from 1366x768 to 720p, the issue was gone; every game was able to be fullscreened again. Apparently wayland doesn't work well with my laptop resolution for some reason.
When this happens, can you check the buffer geometry of the X11 window with the kwin debug console? To open it, just search for "kwin" in krunner
