SUMMARY

Fractionally Scaled Aurorae Themes Become Pixelated.

SEVERITY: Normal

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

1. Enable the Plasma Wayland session.
2. Enable Fractional Scaling for a display.
3. Install any Window Decoration theme from the System Settings page for them.
4. Enable that theme, and drag a window to the scaled display.

OBSERVED RESULT

The window controls shown onscreen don’t match the preview images shown in KDE Store screenshots, and they are pixelated as well as visibly distorted. In some themes, both the titlebar design and buttons are distorted, in others it is just the control buttons. In a multi-display set-up, the decorations seem to appear normal on a non-fractionally-scaled display if you move a window there but become distorted again when returning the window to the scaled display.

EXPECTED RESULT

Non-distorted window controls on the fractionally scaled display.

Notice the blurry edges compared to the Window-Decorations widget in my top panel, which seems to work for some reason. No multi-monitor display screenshots will be provided as I'm experiencing another bug where when I connect my surface tablet to a non-fractionally scaled monitor the screen overall becomes slightly blurry, alongside the window decorations themselves.

Pixelated/blurry window decorations compared side-by-side to how they should look.

I also have this issue in Wayland with any fractional scale. In the attached image, I have compared the visibly blurry/pixelated window decorations of my terminal window with the preview of what they are supposed to look like in the appearance settings. The decorations are pixelated for every theme I have tried that isn't one of the stock themes, and for certain themes like the one I am using in the attached image, the shadow around the window is also pixelated. However, stock themes like Breeze and Plastik look crisp.

Pixelated window title when both displays scaled differently.

Another thing to add is that if I have both my external monitor (4K resolution) and my laptop display (1440p resolution) scaled by the same amount (say 150%), only the buttons and shadow etc. are pixelated, but the title text itself is not. However, when I scale my external monitor to 175% and keep my laptop display to 150%, the title text on all windows also becomes pixelated as can be seen in the attached image, although it is less pixelated if I drag the window over to the external monitor.

I tried other combinations of fractional scaling, and the worst seems to be when I scale the external monitor to 175% and the laptop display to 150%, but the title is still slightly pixelated with other combinations, but looks fine with other certain combinations.
