Description Psijic 2023-07-01 07:33:11 UTC
SUMMARY
Sometimes my browsers (Opera, Brave) open in a new desktop even after I moved it to desktop 1 and deleted others. Once Brave added 5 desktops in a row.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open a browser
2. Sometimes it opens a new virtual desktop
3. Sometimes it can open few virtual desktops in a row

OBSERVED RESULT
New virtual desktop added (Panel, Settings)

EXPECTED RESULT
Used a single virtual desktop

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: OpenSuse Leap 15.5
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.103.0
Qt Version: 5.15.8

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I didn’t find how to disable VDs in KDE settings even if it was available few years ago.
`kwriteconfig --file kwinrc --group Desktops --key UserCreated false` didn't help.
Comment 1 David Edmundson 2023-07-02 09:40:22 UTC
Please check if you have any kwin scripts or rules that could be causing this.

Note also on X11 any client can adjust the number of virtual desktops.

We don't have any duplicate reports so this is unlikely to be a kwin bug until we have some more information to show otherwise.
Comment 2 Psijic 2023-07-02 13:55:19 UTC
MACsimize script was enabled.
MACsimize is a KWin script that moves maximized windows to a new virtual desktop, moves back to original desktop if restored or closed.
