Description mabobakrelsedik86 2023-06-20 06:26:46 UTC
SUMMARY
When using the "inline text" annotation, the appearance of the words i am typing is very slow, the okular start slowing down and not responding. sometimes it respond after i stop taking the inline text; other times a message appear that the application is too busy and ask me to force quit or wait. when i looked at the process that is running, when i try to take inline text annotation, okular appear the number one application in using the CPU; it uses a great amount of CPU. but once i stopped taking the annotation it return to normal.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. open any pdf file
2. click ALT + F6 to open inline text annotation
3. use the mouse to select the area in which you want the annotation to appear
4. once the box opened - in which you take notes inside - start typing your notes
5. okular will slow down and the words will appear on the box after a long time of typing it

EXPECTED RESULT
when i use okular on windows this problem does not appear - with the same PDF file or different one. and when i was using okular on Ubuntu, the same problem, also, does not appear. it seems that the problem is related to manjaro.

Is it the same okular version?

What version of the underlying "Poppler" library is used ?

BTW, the same problem happen on Ubuntu. but the slowing down is not too slow like in manjero. this problem happen only with this type of annotations; I've tested all the others, and they work properly.

Is it poppler 23.05 across all your tests, or only in your manjaro ?

Any chance you can try update to 23.06 ?

I had updated the poppler version from 23.05 to 23.06. it took me a lot of time, since this updated version does not exist on manjaro stable repository; therefore, i had to activate the unstable repository, then install it.

After the poppler upgrade, the inline text annotation, become better than before in terms of speed. However I've realized something, when the PDF file is new and had no annotations, the inline text annotation works very fast and there is no problem, after a while, when i make many annotations, things become slower in terms of making inline text annotation, and in saving the file after creating this annotation using CTRL + s. This is the exact case that i was facing with Ubuntu. So i think that there is a problem concerning this issue, when the file contains many annotation, the file start to slow down a little bit, than when it has no annotations. Finally, thank you so much for helping me solving my issue, at least, i returned to the Ubuntu experience, which is slow - as i have many annotations in my PDF, but it is better than before.
