Map plus geotagged images

I have installed digiKam version 8.0. This is supposed to display geotagged images on a map. This is an important application for which there currently appears to be only one program that can do this Adobe Lightroom. For those of us who do not use Lightroom, digiKam should be a very useful alternative.

Unfortunately digikam 8.0 does not work for me. I was able to open a folder of geotagged files and when I pressed the MAP button, I obtained a screen map of the United Kingdom as shown in the attachment. The circles seem to indicate 52 RAW images (all geotagged) plus 55 JPG images of which 52 are geotagged. I am unable to enlarge this map any further.

I had expected to be able to enlarge this map further and as it expanded thumbnail sized images to be shown where each image was taken.

Could you kindly advise if this is likely to be a forthcoming upgrade.

You might like to be aware that the new owner of Olympus cameras has withdrawn there support for displaying geotagged images on a computer monitor, even though they upgraded the app for adding geotags.

This is the so-called "Atlas" view of Marble. Below the map are tool buttons. With the first tool button you can switch to the OpenStreetMap view. Now you can zoom in. You can also use a tool button to switch to displaying thumbnails. You can also activate overlays for navigation etc. The view with Google Maps View is currently broken on Windows for various reasons.

I link to the Geolocation Editor because some of the buttons are described there:

https://docs.digikam.org/en/geolocation_editor/geoeditor_map.html

Note: the map view also allows viewing GPX track files if they are in the displayed images folder (last tool button in the bar).
