Description bunamirage 2023-05-24 10:50:02 UTC
SUMMARY
When activating auto-hide on a panel at the bottom of the screen, the panel does not reappear after hiding once, except by pressing super. It should reappear when the mouse touches the bottom of the screen. It still happens with a new empty panel, it also still happens when disabling the screen edge desktop effect which gets rid of the blue glow that appears.

This happens specifically on 5.27.5, where I've tried KDE Neon, CachyOS and EndeavourOS, all inside QEMU VMs, and all had this issue. 5.27.4, such as on the latest Fedora KDE, works fine in a VM.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Boot any fresh install with plasma 5.27.5
2. Activate auto-hide on the bottom panel
3. Move the mouse away so it hides
4. Try moving the mouse down to the bottom of the screen, which should make it unhide but doesn't

OBSERVED RESULT
Auto-hidden panels at the bottom of the screen stay hidden forever unless super is pressed

EXPECTED RESULT
Auto-hidden panels should reappear when the mouse touches that edge of the screen.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: KDE Neon User Edition, CachyOS, EndeavourOS
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.106.0
Qt Version: 5.15.9

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Note that my QEMU VMs through virt-manager have no hardware acceleration by default and I also didn't activate spice guest tools, no idea if those things are part of the problem. Panels on the sides or top op the screen seem to work fine, albeit without any open/close animation due to the lack of hardware accel.

Do you have a screen edge effect set on the same edge as the panel? If so, which one?

Are you using the "switch desktops on screen edge" feature?
