SUMMARY When the Show Editing Tools sidebar is on, Gwenview has a minimum window height of around 768 pixels, which can cause problems for: - Users with smallish resolution screens - Users with accessibility needs who are using increased font sizes - Users with non-default themes or settings, such as having a menu bar always shown, or having themes with large borders or padding around items - Users who for whatever reason, want to be able to resize Gwenview, even if Editing Tools are shown STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open an image in Gwenview 2. Make sure Show Editing Tools is enabled 3. Try to resize window vertically OBSERVED RESULT Window cannot be made smaller than around 768 pixels vertically. EXPECTED RESULT Window can be made smaller than around 768 pixels vertically. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION See Bug 458987 for additional discussion. This bug was created to discuss the general UX problem, and to think of possible solutions, e.g. a scrollable Editing Tools sidebar, or other solutions.
Yeah. Options include: - Remove even more items from the tool view until it fits (lol, probably not a great idea) - Reduce the spacing between tool view items as the view becomes shorter, to make them all fit - Put the tool view in a scroll view - Some combination of the above - Something else
how about placing the "editing buttons" on the top menu (arranged horizontally, you can use drop down to save space)? (now they are on the left)
Is there any particular reason why adding a scrollbar is a bad option here? Dolphin has the same problem of too many options when all the side panels are enabled but the scrollbar makes it fine to use. I am having this issue even on a 14" screen (1920x1080) with a 30px panel set to "always visible". It is only in the image view that this problem occurs for me i.e. when the three extra options of "Crop", "Adjust Colours" and "Reduce Red Eyes" are added to the list.
i found workaround for this case, my laptop has 1366x768 resolution screen (then this bug occurs on gwenview) what i did : change the resolution to 1280x720, then zoom out 80%, this will make the screen become 1600x900 (virtually), then gwenview doesn't have this problem anymore
MX Linux KDE edition is also affected by this issue. In my case, monitor resolution is 1280 * 800.
