Description Such A Shame 2023-05-18 17:58:46 UTC
a) Can't drag and drop files from Thumbnails view to another folder in left pane Albums view.
b) Can't drag and drop files to map in Geolocation Editor window.

Unallowed drop location symbol occurs when trying. As there's two similar behaviors, same problem possibly elsewhere too, haven't tested.

Possible to use alternative methods from right click menu ("Move to Album..." and "Copy coordinates").

Did you use the AppImage bundle or a native version from your system ?
Comment 2 Such A Shame 2023-05-18 19:21:20 UTC
AppImage

Both drag and drop actions work here under openSUSE without any problems with the AppImage. Which Linux system are you using?

Ubuntu 23.04
Comment 5 Maik Qualmann 2023-05-18 19:38:48 UTC
Is your Ubuntu up to date? I mean we already had a bug report about drag and drop and after an Ubuntu update everything worked again.

Should be. I've just upgraded ubuntu 22.10->23.04 and digikam appimage 7.9.0->8.0.0, so I have only tested it on freshly upgraded 23.04.

Comment 8 Such A Shame 2023-05-19 10:36:06 UTC
It's possible to drop files to web browser or (gnome) Files, but all digikam window appears as inallowed drop location.
Comment 9 Such A Shame 2023-05-19 10:37:47 UTC
Also Kdenlive is disallowed. This must be KDE issue?
Comment 10 Such A Shame 2023-05-19 11:27:05 UTC
Appears that this is NOT digikam issue as it seems to appear within Kdenlive too, so possibly all KDE within Ubuntu 23.04 in my system is affected. I appreciate if you can suggest where to get help for this, or can this bug report be transferred to appropriate component?

The main differences with the KDenlive and the digiKam AppImage are:

1/ the way to compile it : I do it on my computer, KDenlive uses KDE infra. It can be interesting to try the KDE infra version of digiKam, but as we don't support it officially, i fear to see more problem than the handmaid version.

https://binary-factory.kde.org/view/AppImage/job/Digikam_Nightly_appimage-centos7/

2/ The Qt T.15.x version in AppImage from digiKam is certainly older than one used in KDenlive. This is the low level common code used by both application to share data to the clipboard.

Fix is possibly not yet in Ubuntu, but building mutter from source is reported to work. https://github.com/OpenShot/openshot-qt/issues/5221

Definitively, it's a DOWNSTREAM problem located in Ubuntu/Gnome implementation.

Thanks for your investigations and links.

FYI: Fix is not yet available for Ubuntu 23.04. Apparently mutter 44.2 fixes this. Current version https://packages.ubuntu.com/lunar/mutter

Switching to XCFE seems to fix this. I used command:

sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop^

During installation I also chose to use lightdm when offered.

Some further steps of optimization I haven't tried https://askubuntu.com/questions/65861/how-to-i-change-from-ubuntu-to-xubuntu
