SUMMARY *** Start kate via terminal, nothing happens. Yesterday before the snap was automatically refreshed, kate worked. Today, it doesn't. *** STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Start kate via terminal OBSERVED RESULT Nothing happens. There is nothing printed to the terminal either. EXPECTED RESULT Kate starts. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: Ubuntu Sway 22.10 x86_64 , 5.19.0-42-generic kernel (available in About System) ADDITIONAL INFORMATION I was on 23.04.0 yesterday and it worked.
When I run '''snap revert kate''', kate works again.
I cannot reproduce, I am trying to recruit testers to reproduce. Thanks for reporting.
I can confirm this bug. Kate 23.04.0 starts without troubles, while 23.04.1 crashes without output in terminal. I'm using Kubuntu 22.04.2 LTS, 5.19.0-41-generic. I use Kate Sessions, so whenever I start Kate, I see "Manage Sessions" window. I hope this will help reproducing the bug. I tried to strace kate (sudo strace -o kate-buggy.log -ff -u user -E HOME=/home/user kate). Kate created ~250 child processes and strace did not stop, I had to do kill -9.
*** Bug 470259 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
I can confirm this bug as well. Ubuntu 22.04 here (Gnome/Wayland)
Notice that 'snap revert' works only if you haven't removed Kate before... So for me it's blocking, many users can't start Kate as snap.
I am still trying to work out the issue. Curious: are all of you on wayland?

This should fix it. https://invent.kde.org/utilities/kate/-/merge_requests/1333
Please update to the latest version ( 23.08.3 ) in the store. Thanks.
