Description Torsten Wohlfarth (TUXEDO) 2023-05-15 14:27:50 UTC
Would it be possible to group the applications displayed on the website according to current and depricated?

As an example, Moun is still present there, although according to the

is abadonware.

With kind regards

Unmaintained software is already filtered out (there's a hidden https://apps.kde.org/categories/unmaintained/ category), so I think this is a website bug, because Muon appears to be unmaintained according to https://invent.kde.org/search?search=muon&nav_source=navbar.

Part of the confusion here is that there's two sources of truth for what is considered unmaintained.

There's the unmaintained/ category as part of the project path, which seems to be what is listed here.

But there's also the "repoactive" key in the project metadata and whether the gitlab repo is marked as archived. Apparently we at some point stopped changing the project path to unmaintained/ when archiving stuff, which makes some sense given that the project path is largely irrelevant these days

Projects in unmaintained/ were all of those that were repoactive=false at the time of the migration to invent.kde.org.
This was done simply to save time and avoid us having to spend time categorising projects that were no longer under active development.

Our practice since invent.kde.org has gone live is that when projects become unmaintained we archive the repository in place - which removes them from active view while still keeping everything relating to it frozen in time for archival purposes.

Therefore repoactive=false should be the true flag relied upon to determine if something is unmaintained.

The project groupings on invent.kde.org mostly reflect the type of software something is/was.

The "unmaintained" category of apps.k.o doesn't reflect either repo-metadata or Invent project path, apps-k-o only has a manually-updated list of unmaintained apps (made by combining https://invent.kde.org/websites/apps-kde-org/-/blob/master/appdata-extractor/unmaintained_apps.yaml and https://invent.kde.org/websites/apps-kde-org/-/blob/master/appdata-extractor/unmaintained_projects.yaml). At first the "unmaintained" category was only used to keep alive pages of apps that were active but became unmaintained. There was no Invent back then and although `repoactive` was already there (if I'm not mistaken), there were only a few pages to be kept, and so this is how the page generation was implemented and has been kept since then.

I've made Muon an unmaintained app (please check https://apps.kde.org/unmaintained/) and made an Invent issue (https://invent.kde.org/websites/apps-kde-org/-/issues/30) to follow up on the broader problem of how to deal with unmaintained apps. This specific bug report can be closed.
