See the screenshot attached. The top "Failed to join room" would likely suffice. The make_join I imagine is the Matrix server action name which the user could be confused by.

The message is indeed bad, but I don't think we should *not* show it since that would mean hiding information that could be useful for debugging

Maybe have the info available behind a details link and it could show debug
info there.
