In the KMyMoney settings dialog, Ledger section. Display tab, is "Show all ledger entries in full detail" checked? If so, the ledger lens doesn't show any additional detail, so it looks like it's always on.

With the setting shown in the attachment, the ledger lens IS used on the selected transaction.
