Description Bugzilla Maintainers 2002-08-24 18:19:43 UTC
(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***)

Package:
Version: 3.0.0-2 (using KDE 3.0.0 )
Severity: wishlist
Installed from: RedHat RPMs
Compiler: Not Specified
OS: Linux
OS/Compiler notes: Not Specified

I'd like to make a suggestion to make audio preview in Konqueror more powerful and user-friendly.

Currently Konqueror starts playing a file if a mouse pointer hovers on top of an audio file icon and then stops when a mouse pointer leaves. It would be useful to change the behavior such that if the file plays more than n seconds then it will continue to play even after mouse moves away. Konqueror would display a little emblem just to show that preview is "locked". It should turn out to be a really neat way to play an audio file! (of course the lock would be released when preview reaches the end of a file)

To release the lock there are a few possibilities but i'm not quite sure which one is better.

(1) the preview restarts when mouse is moved away and then moved back therefore releases the lock. the user can then move the mouse away before n seconds of preview (after which a lock would be put on again).

(2) the preview doesn't restart unlike that in (1) but the user can click on the icon to make it stop (just like what it does currently).

In my opinion (1) is more nervebreaking but (2) is less intuitive.

Best Regards

Likai Liu

A simpler suggestion: when a user clicks a file after hearing some
tooltip/preview playback don't restart the song, instead continue playback of
the sample naturally.

'Cause this Issue is over 23 y/o, I have tested this "Request" under the Latest/stable 23.08.4.

It seems that this Feature isn't inplement in the Latest Build (tested under:
KDE Frameworks: Version 5.110.0.
Qt-Version 5.15.11 (compiled against 5.15.11))
Betriebssystem: EndeavourOS
KDE-Plasma-Version: 6.3.0
KDE-Frameworks-Version: 6.10.0
Qt-Version: 6.8.2
Kernel-Version: 6.13.2-arch1-1 (64-bit)

If this Feature should still implement, recreate this Ticket and mark it with the "Wishlist" severity.

Some Ressources:

-Documentation: https://docs.kde.org/stable5/en/konqueror/konqueror/konqueror.pdf (under 3.3.2 - doesn't seems like "audio preview" is supported)
- Userbase: https://userbase.kde.org/Konqueror

(For Website-Ressource-Management, I haven´t add an Proof-of-Concept Video/Picture for this old Ticket)
