Description rlacroix 2023-04-24 16:17:01 UTC
SUMMARY
On a **fedora 36**, using **Kdenlive Version 23.04.0** and **MLT Version 7.15.0** updated today from flatpak, tested on an **X11 session**.
About 30 minutes after adding a nested sequence, I started having repetitive crashes on startup, preventing any work recovery.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
I did not manage to find the exact thing that caused the issue (I worked on the project for about 2h). In the list of things that could be noted about this project :
- I tried preview rendering at some point, and it kept crashing, so I tried different preview rendering settings (I tried to replicate this but on my test project it works fine).
- I had about 20 clips, 2 sequences one of which (that was a little computationally heavy) was in the other.

OBSERVED RESULT
Crash on startup

EXPECTED RESULT
No crash on startup

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: fedora 36
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.104.0
Qt Version: 5.15.8

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I could not get the stepd to generate a trace frome [here](https://kdenlive.org/en/bug-reports/) to work, but I ran Kdenlive
from the terminal and got these errors right when it crashed :
```
MLT: "[producer_xml] parse fatal: expected '>'\trow: 1915\tcol: 48"
MLT: "[producer_xml] parse fatal: Opening and ending tag mismatch: property line 0 and prop\trow: 1915\tcol: 48"
MLT: "[producer_xml] parse fatal: Premature end of data in tag filter line 1912\trow: 1915\tcol: 48"
```

I managed to fiddle around with the project file and remove the clip that was preventing the file from opening.
It was a "Sequence 1" within "Sequence 1" itself (which I never put there, maybe a file corruption?).
I tried to replicate but could not

Thank you for reporting.

Maybe related to Bug 468962. In the meantime, we fixed some bugs related to sequence nesting. If you like you can test with the nightly AppImage build: https://binary-factory.kde.org/job/Kdenlive_Nightly_appimage-centos7/

I tried to open the old files, they still have the sequences swapped, but I think they were probably overwritten in the file itself. I don't know how to reproduce the bug itself, which was a random swap at runtime.

Please try with the current Kdenlive AppImage version 23.04.1. We solved a lot of consistence issue and sequence crashes. https://kdenlive.org/en/download/

I have similar problem, I'm already using 23.08.1 (win10), my operation steps:

1. created a 1920*1200 30fps project, add many clips and effects
2. create new 1920*1080 25fps project, add project1 as media
3. try to insert project1 media into timeline
4. kdenlive crashed

I tried several times, kdenlive always crash and can't recover. and I changed second new project as 1920 * 1080 30 fps,
such operation can complete

 Import of projects with different resolutions is not possible at the moment. It’s on the roadmap to fix it.

@rlacroix
Do you have used the official Kdenlive flatpak from flathub https://flathub.org/apps/org.kde.kdenlive? If not please install Kdenlive from flathub and try again.

I used it at the time. I don't have the file that caused the issue anymore though :/

Thank you for your feedback. We corrected several nested timeline issues and crashes in the past. If you don’t mind I close this bug. If it still appears in the latest version, please feel free to re-open it and update the affected version number.
