Created attachment 158346 [details] Logs from when Kwin Wayland session froze my GPU SUMMARY I do not exactly remember what happened, but when I moved mouse to the integrated terminal in Kate, my screen froze. I could still heard sounds as I was listening to a podcast at the same time. After some while there was minor artifacting in the screen where Kate was, but screen was still frozen. I then pressed ctrl+alt+backspace to kill the Wayland session. STEPS TO REPRODUCE Unfortunately I have no detailed reproducing steps, but it seems to have something to do with moving mouse between GPU accelerated applications, such as Terminal and Kate, especially if the other app is embedded inside the other. OBSERVED RESULT Screen freezes and minor artifacting occurs. EXPECTED RESULT Screen would not freeze. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Operating System: Fedora Linux 38 KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.4 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.104.0 Qt Version: 5.15.9 Kernel Version: 6.2.11-300.fc38.x86_64 (64-bit) Graphics Platform: Wayland Processors: 12 × AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core Processor Memory: 15,5 GiB of RAM Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon RX 6600 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION I have provided logs in attachment. Not sure if this amdgpu issue or kwin wayland?
Forgot to add, I can't repro this bug reliably. It happens only sometimes.
There's a GPU reset happening. Recovering from that will be working with a future Mesa release, when https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/issues/7460 is fixed. The cause of the GPU reset isn't clear, but these warnings > amdgpu: [gfxhub] page fault (src_id:0 ring:24 vmid:3 pasid:32769, for process kwin_wayland pid 622300 thread kwin_wayla:cs0 pid 622348) make me believe it's a driver bug. Please report this to https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/amd/-/issues
I have created the bug report here https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/amd/-/issues/2526 If anyone else encounters this, feel free to chime in.
