Description michael2macdonald 2023-03-28 19:41:17 UTC
SUMMARY
When searching for duplicates, it often finds JPEG and RAW images from my camera and lists them as duplicates. This is not desirable for obvious reasons, and it clutters the search results making it hard to find actual duplicate images. Adding the option to ignore RAW and JPEG/PNG/TIFF photos with the same file name when searching for duplicates in the similarity tab would fix this issue and make finding actual duplicates easier.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Import both RAW and JPEG (or any two image types) versions of your photos into Digikam
2. Select your desired album(s) containing these photos in the similarity/duplicates tab
3. Update image fingerprints and scan for duplicates

OBSERVED RESULT
The RAW and JPEG versions of the same image are marked as duplicates

EXPECTED RESULT
Images with the same name but of a different file type should not show up as duplicates unless the user selects/deselects an option to show duplicates with differing file types.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
N/A

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This is a feature request and it applies to all versions of the software and all platforms to my knowledge.

Can't seem to find a voting option in here - so I'd just comment that I too would like this option.
Importing both RAW and JPEG is commen working with photography and the finding duplicates feature was one fo the main reasons I got digiKam. Currently every single image is considered a duplicate due to the lack of format filtering which makes the feature unusable.

+1 Would love to get a basic filename filter added to similarity tool

My vote too to this, my particular case is having CR2 (Canon RAW) and JPG files and the option is virtually unusable now to find real duplicates.

Example:
- file1.CR2 and file1.JPG and a 'real' duplicate file1.JPEG
- file2.CR2 and file2.JPG and a 'real' duplicate file2(1).CR2 (upload issue which introduced copies)

This seems like a really logical and important additions to Digikam. 100K photos here with 77K duplicates...
