SUMMARY STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. set the hostname to something unknown (e.g. "fedora") 2. add multiple (slow) dns hosts (in my case I had corporate vpn active which most probably was causing host name resolving delay) OBSERVED RESULT Once in a while (sometimes several times a day) the kwin would hang, blocking all activity. Sometimes it would come back a few min later (if I had time to wait that long). As a workaround I was able to bind a global shortcut for 'kwin_x11 --replace' and restart kwin with a shortcut if it's stuck. Once I changed my hostname to the one present in /etc/hosts kwin does not hang any more. EXPECTED RESULT kwin should not hang while resolving hostname SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: (available in About System) KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.1 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.104.0 Qt Version: 5.15.8 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

what's the best way to get backtrace from kwin?
