SUMMARY
***
Unfortunately I have to work on remote file system not in my local LAN but in another country which is accessed over VPN with the annoying 2FA.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Establish a VPN connection to the corporate network
2. Mount Windows DFS volumes from corporate server to your Linux computer
3. Browse the mounted volume with Dolphin

OBSERVED RESULT
1. Notice that subfolders with many sub-subfolders in them may take very long to appear on dolphin
2. Notice that even folders with 10 to 20 files take at least 21 seconds to show.

EXPECTED RESULT
Immediate response

Yes, working with remote folders isn't that great on Dolphin currently. There is https://invent.kde.org/system/dolphin/-/merge_requests/522 which might improve this a bit.

This one might be improved in the next version (Dolphin 23.04) by https://invent.kde.org/system/dolphin/-/commit/ba930ddb3635fe2d94d727e72aaf261513b28060.

I would love to see both MR's applied. Is there anything I can to help this happen?

Thanks for the offer to help! Unfortunately, unless you are a very skilled software developer, there isn't much you can do at this point in time to move this forward. The right people are currently actively working on it, which is great. I hope they won't get stuck in which case emotional support might help. ^^ This is one of the more complicated topics to work on even for proficient developers, and one of the people reviewing it is very careful about this being implemented cleanly, which sets a high bar.

The later commit I mentioned (https://invent.kde.org/system/dolphin/-/commit/ba930ddb3635fe2d94d727e72aaf261513b28060) is already merged so you might already see slight performance improvements once you update to the yet-to-be-released Dolphin 23.04.
