First, are you really running 5.1.3?  The Tip of the Day feature has been removed some time ago, although I don't remember exactly when.
Second, I believe you are misinterpreting the tip.   Searching the translation files, I find the English/German

It says you can  add columns to the account tables on the Home Page, not in the ledger.  Use the checkboxes at the bottom of the  Home section of the Configure KMyMoney... dialog.  That section should be labelled Konto-Informationen anzeigen.
You cannot add columns to the ledger, but I would ask what additional columns you want to add.  There have been previous requests to add separate columns for some of the data currently shown in the "Details" column (I do not remember if there is already a wish-list bug report for this) and this might be made possible, but unlikely before the new ledger (currently only in master branch of git) is released to production, and there is no current schedule for this.

I am certain I run 5.1.3 - at least thats what KMM reports under "about" - but maybe the persistance of the Tip of the day is a Quirk of the german version?

Concerning the additional columns in the ledger I think it would be very useful to display the assigned category of individual entries and maybe the attatched note. This may make it less clear for some people but having it as an option might be worth it. I know they are available when you activate the full detail view but that also creates a lot of visual clutter because of the three-lined layout.

Since the main point is the request for additional columns in the ledger, I'm closing as a duplicate of a much older request for this ability.

Persistence of the "tip of the day" might be due to the Windows version.  Different languages use the same code version, but just use different files with translations of all the text strings used by the program.  In any case, I'd say be aware it might disappear in a future version, but I wouldn't call it's presence a bug.
