Description punk.salt6165 2023-03-01 09:33:31 UTC
SUMMARY
***
This is a bug that makes window decorations look "half-size" for the lack of a better word. The window decoration is compressed into 50% of the window width, while the rest of the 50% is lacking a window decoration. It causes the text to appear zoomed in or in the wrong position also, depending on the size of the window.

I spent some time trying to find a way that reproduces this reliably, and for me, I can reproduce it specially when minimizing the windows first, and then bringing them back into view and resizing them. Maybe because bringing them out of view and forcing them to redraw again is somehow helping to trigger the bug.

***

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Set window decorations to something with Aurorae - I use "Dezy Blur Dark Color Aurorae".
2. Create 3-4 windows (I use kitty) and include Firefox since it seems to help trigger the bug more often.
3. Now minimize all windows by clicking on their minimize button in the window decoration bar.
4. Bring them back using the Task switcher (Alt-Tab for first one, then the shortcut to switch window within the same application (i have it on Alt+$).

5. Now start resizing windows and you have a good chance of seeing a few of them get their window decorations corrupted. Sometimes its just one or a few, sometimes its all of them. It seems to be a bit random, possibly depending on what memory has been corrupted.

OBSERVED RESULT

Window decorations gets visually corrupted and look like "half-size" (see screenshot and video).

EXPECTED RESULT

Windows should not get corrupted into "half-size" (as I call it).

Video showing the bug

Im really sorry but because of the length of the video, I had to encode it into quite low resolution to get under the 4 MB size limit for attachments. You can still see the bug but the text is very blurry. I hope you can still read it.

I wanted the video to be a bit longer to really show how the bug appears to spread to other windows etc.

I forgot to mention that closing the window and opening a new one means the corruption is gone for that window, but it comes back after minimizing / resizing and so on. All new windows start out fresh and looking good until they get bug sniped. :)

Looks like the same issue as in Bug 465790, which is marked as fixed. I guess it's not actually fixed for all use cases. Re-opening.

It's a tricky bug. I read the original bug report and it seems like it was simply appearing and easily spotted.

Now it's kind of hiding and appears only in this scenario above... But it's still there. Thanks for reopening!

Also want to add that it never happens with Breeze so it's absolutely related to auroroe window decorations.
