Description Jon 2023-02-27 19:33:30 UTC
The current workflow for me is:
1. Hover over a face to tag
2. Type in 2 or 3 letters
3. Arrow down to select the persons name
4. Hit enter

I would rather have the first persons name autocomplete in the text box without having to arrow through the list. This would allow me to skip step 3, and simply hit enter if the first person is the person I want.

I would do it similar to a google search where the part I type is not highlighted, and the part autocompleted is highlighted. This way I can just hit backspace to stop/remove the autocomplete if I didn't need it for that tag.

Thanks,
Jon

We had the inline completion for a short time due to problems with the popup window over a graphics view. However, users wishes the list, also to see more names that might match the input. Inline completion can be significantly slower if typing the first letter doesn't show the expected name and you have to type more.

Name autocomplete causes immediate crash in preview mode when tagging faces. However the dropdown is functional in preview mode. Any keyboard input causes a crash. N.B. This doesn't occur in thumbnail mode, which appears to be fine.
This occured in 8.1 as well (both on Windows 10) and it feels like a GUI problem as if the autocomplete list is unpopulated?

Hi Simon,

The crash must be fixed in the 8.3.0 pre release for Windows. Files are there :

Hi,

The digiKam 8.7.0 pre-release for Windows have been rebuild from scratch today
with many improvements and updates especially with the face management
workflow. Please test with this version to see if the problem is reproducible.
