SUMMARY When attaching an external VGA screen (while power is off?) makes the laptop recognize there is a screen. When then turning on the power, the resolution on that screen is very low and you have to change it manually. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Attach VGA monitor with power supply off 2. Turn on VGA monitors power supply 3. Wait 4. Plug out and in the VGA monitor OBSERVED RESULT The resolution is really low, like 720*1200-ish. It doesnt change again to the max detected and supported res, you have to manually go to the settings and change it. EXPECTED RESULT The system should update the monitors resolution when it is plugged in again. Or this weird bug should not happen, making it unnessecary (if you somehow want lower res) SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Operating System: Fedora Linux 37 KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.0 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.103.0 Qt Version: 5.15.8 Kernel Version: 6.1.12-200.fc37.x86_64 (64-bit) Graphics Platform: Wayland Graphics Processor: Mesa Intel® HD Graphics 4000
Can you paste the output of `kscreen-doctor -o` run in a terminal window when you plug in the screen, but before you turn it on? Is this actually a VGA screen plugged into a VGA port directly? Or are there any dongles involved?
I have no access to that screen, tried to reproduce it on another and didnt: When using a powered dock, when the dock is off, there is no VGA screen detected at all. When plugging in the screen while turned off, the displays are changed as if it was connected, and info shown is the same as when it is on. kscreen-doctor -o Output: 1 LVDS-1 enabled connected priority 1 Panel Modes: 0:1600x900@60*! 1:1024x768@60 2:1280x800@60 3:1600x900@60 4:1368x768@60 5:1280x720@60 Geometry: 1680,0 1600x900 Scale: 1 Rotation: 1 Overscan: 0 Vrr: incapable RgbRange: unknown Output: 2 VGA-1 enabled connected priority 2 VGA Modes: 0:1680x1050@60*! 1:1600x1200@60 2:1440x900@75 3:1440x900@60 4:1280x800@75 5:1280x800@60 6:1024x768@75 7:1024x768@70 8:1024x768@60 9:800x600@75 10:800x600@72 11:800x600@60 12:800x600@56 13:640x480@75 14:640x480@73 15:640x480@60 16:720x400@70 17:1280x1024@60 18:1024x768@60 19:1600x900@60 20:1368x768@60 21:1280x720@60 Geometry: 0,0 1680x1050 Scale: 1 Rotation: 1 Overscan: 0 Vrr: incapable RgbRange: unknown This is the output of a working screen.
