SUMMARY I'm using the "Tiled Menu" (https://store.kde.org/p/1160672/) as start menu. When I click on the icon in the task bar, the menu opens correctly. When I press the meta key, the Application Dashboard (https://userbase.kde.org/Plasma/Application_Dashboard) is opened instead. The Application Dashboard was the last of the included default KDE start menus before I switched to Tiled Menu. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Press the meta key OBSERVED RESULT Application Dashboard opens EXPECTED RESULT Tiled Menu SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Operating System: KDE neon 5.27 KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.0 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.103.0 Qt Version: 5.15.8 Kernel Version: 5.19.0-32-generic (64-bit) Graphics Platform: X11 Processors: 16 × AMD Ryzen 7 4800H with Radeon Graphics Memory: 30.8 GiB of RAM Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon Graphics Manufacturer: Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. Product Name: Bravo 17 A4DDR System Version: REV:1.0 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION I have no idea if this is related to KDE Plasma or the Tiled Menu. I also don't know how I would even find this one out. This bug appeared with 5.27. On 5.26.x pressing the meta key opened the Tiled Menu.
Meta key takes into account applets with "X-Plasma-Provides": [ "org.kde.plasma.launchermenu" ], in their metadata. It appears Tiled menu has that set correctly. Seems the dashboard is still alive somewhere though.
How did you switch to Tiled Menu? Did you use the "alternatives" functionality, or add it manually? It seems like both are active at once.
As far as I remember I right clicked the 'start menu' to switch it's style. Somewhere I found a link to the KDE store to search for start menu alternatives. I found the alternative start menu, downloaded it and installed it in the way as it was described. (If I recall correctly it was just to double click the .plasmoid file. Could also very well be to copy the file to some subfolder). When I change the start menu back to the Application Dashboard, the start button as well as the start menu look similar (but not the same). While testing I found an interesting bug that is maybe related to this one. When you open the Application Dashboard with the start menu and then open the Application Dashboard with the meta key it looks like Z-fighting to me where one application tries to stay on top of the other one (see video). When I switch back to the tiled menu again the initial problem as described does not go away (so it does not seem to be like an overwritten setting that goes away when you change the used start menu)
Created attachment 156677 [details] start menu z-fighting bug The bug as described in Comment 3. What you see is that I opened the start menu with the mouse (until second 3). Then I open the start menu with the meta key and the 'z-fighting' starts (second 3 to second 6). Then I press the meta key again and the z-fighting stops as one of the start menus is closed (second 6 and following). As described in the comment: It looks like two windows which are meant to be always on top and now fight to stay on top. The switch looks quite slow in the video, but is very fast in reality.
After an update the meta key opens the right start menu.
