Description alexkrz 2023-02-05 11:51:28 UTC
SUMMARY

When selecting the "Properties" panel for an image, in the "Item Properties" section, several fields such as dimensions and aspect ratio are marked as Unknown.
In the FAQ I read that the "Item Properties" section is handled by exif2. ExifTool however can read the requested properties. Would it be possible to change from exif2 to ExifTool to retrieve the unknown item properties?

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Import image (in my case iPhone 13)
2. Select properties in right sidebar
3. Find unknown item properties

OBSERVED RESULT

Item properties are unknown.

EXPECTED RESULT

Item properties should be displayed correctly when using ExifTool instead of exif2.

This may already be implemented in digiKam-8.0.0. Can you please upload a image or send it to my private mail with which the problem occurs?

Maik

Sample image for which the problem occurs

I have attached a sample image for which the problem occurs.
Comment 3 Maik Qualmann 2023-02-05 12:14:41 UTC
The sample image has no metadata, but all information is displayed, i.e. aspect ratio, etc. An IPhone 13 test sample from the web also shows all camera-related information.
I suspect your image was not correctly captured by the Import Scanner, please re-read the metadata from the image, Menu-> Items-> Reread Metadata from Image.

Thanks for the hint! Re-reading the metadata did the trick for me. I typically sort my collections by year and then add items for a new year with the "add collection" functionality from the settings menu. I am not sure why metadata is not read correctly in the first place here.

Anyways thanks for your quick response and for working on this really helpful tool!

Best, Alex
