SUMMARY

After an update, notifications on my desktop are completely unusable.

OBSERVED RESULT

Text is garbled, and for some reason trying to use rtl characters?


EXPECTED RESULT

Text should be readable and in English

Notifications inside the tray look fine.

Have you rebooted since the update? Looks like a fontconfig/freetype/harfbuzz/etc update that caused this

After a reboot it works fine, yes.

Though I doubt its a fontconfig/freetype/harfbuzz issue as the rest of the system looks fine.

Perhaps a change in the way data is sent to the notification i.e., a change in the protocol? Perhaps something else

There was no change in how notifications are handled. It is 100% a font handling issue, I've seen it multiple times and not only in notifications.

Not sure whether this is something wrong in Qt or with the font libraries though
