I'm generally good about locking my Vault after I'm done using it, but occasionally I forget, and realize that it's been unlocked for hours and hours.

Years ago I set my mother up with a similar system on her Mac using encrypted disk images, inspired by Plasma Vaults. She *never* remembers to lock it, so it's almost always unlocked 100% of the time, defeating a lot of the benefit of the security it brings.

It would be nice if Vaults could be configured to auto-lock after a period of inactivity--"inactivity" being defined as "no apps currently have a file in the Vault open, or are viewing it in a file manager. Might be tricky to implement, but if done, I think it could substantially improve local security and also free the user of the need to perform an easily forgettable chore.
