SUMMARY
I'm actually doing my work with kmail: Questions are coming in via e-mail. I'm using org-mode (https://orgmode.org/) to organize everything. It would be very helpful to put a link into my org-file to the e-mail which I received or wrote on that topic.

This does not depend on Emacs or org-mode: Anybody who uses e-mails for work will need, at least once in a while, a way to link to such an e-mail.

As of today, it is rather difficult to have any link to a specific e-mail. kmail neither makes the message-ID available, nor the path to the email (which may change from new to cur). The possible solution is discussed in this thread here: https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/emacs-orgmode/2023-01/msg00698.html

There has been a suggestion to use URI sheme "mid:", but if that idea from 1998 is the smartest thing to implement in 2023? However, probably a solution would be very useful for many users.

There is an addon for Thunderbird: https://camiel.bouchier.be/en/cb_thunderlink

Maybe somebody finds my report here and decides to write such an addon for kmail.
