Description David REVOY 2023-01-16 14:15:21 UTC
SUMMARY
Hi, If you create your Krita artworks using the templates and also if you use the Recorder: all the frames recorded will fall into the same directory.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create a new document from template: Design Templates > 16:10 Cinema
2. Activate the Recorder (Settings > Docker > Recorder, setup to 2 frame per seconds to accelerate the test)
3. Paint something during 15 seconds (eg. Circles in Red )
4. Save the file to Test1.kra
{ Repeat a second time}
5. Design Templates > 16:10 Cinema
6. Activate the Recorder
7. Paint something else (eg. square in blue )
8. Save the file to Test2.kra
9. Finally: open the directory where the Recorder saved the frame

OBSERVED RESULT
The frames of Red Circles and the frames of Blue Circles are in the same directory.
If you open Test1.kra and Test2.kra side by side (tiling mode) you can even mix the frame as you edit on one or another.

EXPECTED RESULT
Each newly created artwork uses Templates to get its own directory for Recording.

DIFFICULTIES
I *really* appreciate how the Recorder keep track and can continue to record a file even after it get renamed. It's great because one can use "Save Incremental", or move the file on the disk, or rename it and continue it a Recording. A downside, I guess, is that all Template share the same Krita source file; and so the Recorder tracks them all as being the same artwork. It would be great if the internal ID of the KRA made with templates got reset each time a new document is created, and keep the way Recorder is able to track KRA files.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Fedora 37, latest Plasma, Appimage 5.1.5

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Not a regression, the bug is on my to-report list since 5.1.3, Recorder was just probably designed this way.

Hi David,

Following your instructions it seems like this is fixed in the Krita Next. I see that documents made from templates will now properly save in different directories. Can you confirm if its fixed as well?

INFO:
The way the recorder creates the directory is from the timestamp of the document creation. There was bug a before that documents made with templates all had the same creation date as the original template. It seems that's now fixed which fixed this issue with the recorder. You can check that by looking at File -> Document Information -> Created and see how in krita 5.1.5 it always shows a date years old and Krita Next shows the time you created that file.
