If one types something like "file://foo/bar/baz" into the location bar (note: there are only two slashes following 'file:' while a correctly formatted URI has three, eg. "file:///foo/bar/baz" Dolphin pops up a dialog asking the user to input credentials for a (non-existent) SMB file share, which is... weird.

Dolphin just seems to really hate if you forego the root directory slash - related bug 456170

Tested on a fresh live install ISO of KDE neon to confirm it's an OOTB issue.

I can confirm this. Typing in "file://home/tracey/filename.txt" resulted in an authentication pop up, which I'm attaching.
