Suddenly every clip I try to insert into my video jumps to the beginning and looks like it's inserted there. It can't be moved and it's actually not there - if you click on the section of the video that should have the clip you can see it, you just can't edit it because the thumbnail is at the beginning and uneditable. It's so frustrating and I don't know if I've done something to cause it? The only thing that resets it is closing the app down and reopening. It happens every single time I open the app now so I can easily reporduce it but I'm not sure how someone else could.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open app, choose clip to insert
2. Insert clip after other clips (not at the beginnning)

OBSERVED RESULT
Clip will jump to the start of the timeline and bug out until the app is reopened

EXPECTED RESULT
Clip should appear in the section that it's being dropped in, in this case at the end, after all of the other already inserted clips.

Mode_Change

Please check if you have enabled “insert mode”. If so, change to “normal mode”. See here: https://docs.kdenlive.org/en/cutting_and_assembling/editing.html#id4 and attachment.

I'm experiencing the same problem in v23.08.0 (Debian .deb) as well as v23.08.1 (AppImage), both running on "current" (as of the posting date for this message) Debian trixie/sid. Toggling between Normal/Insert/Overwrite mode has no effect, clip thumbnails and controls always snap to the beginning of the timeline when inserted while clip content actually appears at the correct position in the project monitor when jogging the timeline cursor.

WRT closing/opening the program resetting the problem it is important to know that this only works when the project was saved AFTER the first edit directly after the problem shows up, i.e. saved when the timeline is in the 'wrong/buggy' state. The timeline appears correctly when the program is reopened and the project loaded. Just closing and opening kdenlive when the project is in the state BEFORE the problem shows up (how? Like this: make edit, notice that the thumbnails snap to the beginning of the timeline, undoing that last edit (CTRL-Z), save the project, close kdenlive and reopen it, load the project) leads to the problem reappearing on the first edit. This points at the problem being related to a specific state in the current project.

Maybe a pointer to where the problem lies: when I just encountered the problem again for the #th time, saved the project in the 'bugy' state, closed and reopened kdenlive I got the following message on loading the project:

`Clip chain98 on incorrect subtrack found and fixed on track V3 at 00:02:27:00`

The odd thing here is that the last edit was not to track V3 but track V2 - is this an off-by-one error related to track selection?

Maybe a short screen view would help to understand. BTW: Insert Mode adds clip to the timeline without space: https://docs.kdenlive.org/en/cutting_and_assembling/editing.html#insert-mode

A screenshot would only show a missing clip while the project player would show that clip's content. This is a bug, not a feature as can be shown by the fact that saving the file, restarting kdenlive and reloading it shows the inserted clip (audio or video, does not matter, this bug hits both types) in the correct position.

I'll try to rig up a demonstration and send the project file if I can get it to reliably reproduce the bug. It hits more or less every edit I I do which makes kdenlive close to unusable.

Sample project for bug 463839

Demonstration project showing this bug. Open this file in kdenlive 23.08.0 or 23.08.1 (these are the versions I tested), try to place the enclosed generated clips on the timeline in sequential order on the same track and notice that both clips snap to the start of the timeline. Save the project, restart kdenlive and reload the saved project and the clips will be in the correct position.

Demonstration video for bug #463839 showing clips snapping to beginning timeline while playing in 'correct' location

This demonstration video (made using the above project file) shows the effects described for bug #463839 where clip thumbnails snap to the beginning of the timeline while playing in the 'correct' location. In the video the following is shown:

1: two clips are dropped sequentially on the timeline. The expected result would be for two clip thumbnails to show sequentially on the timeline. This is not what happens, instead both thumbnails snap to the beginning of the timeline where the second one obscures the first one

2: when the timeline cursor is scrubbed over the area where the second clip was dropped the project monitor shows the clip content playing in the 'correct' location while the area under the cursor is empty.

Thanks for the project file and demo video. I just tested with the 23.08.1 Appimage, but cannot reproduce your problem with your project...So I am a bit puzzled...
Can you reproduce 100% of the time using the project file and playlist attached to this report ?
Could you tell me which locale you are using ? (paste the output of "locale" in a terminal)
